REHEARSALS: Wednesday evenings, July 30th & August 27th, 2008 in the Port Royal Lutheran Church Sanctuary (see above for street location).
Anyone who would like to sing with the volunteer choir should send a quick note to KEVIN CUNNINGHAM / RR 4, BOX 4855 / MIFFLINTOWN PA 17059 or kcunningham@embarqmail.com. Having an advance headcount will help us as we prepare ample amounts of printed music.
Regardless of your perceived singing ability, whether it be future 'American Idol' or a self taught shower singer, I would enjoy having you with our group of friendly folks. Special Note: Good friends and music teaching colleagues Mrs. Sherry Morgan (Indian Valley HS) and Mr. Gene Hoffmaster (East Juniata HS) will be sharing conducting time with myself. While these two fine individuals share their conducting talents with our group, I will have the opportunity to stand among the ranks and just be one of the singers . . . something that should prove to be very enjoyable. Mr. Robert St. Clair will once again be providing keyboard accompaniment for our volunteer group and The Boyz will be adding their version of "Just A Little Talk With Jesus" to the selected musical selections.
Respectfully,
Kevin Cunningham, Juniata High School Band & Chorus Director

Do you know anyone who has devoted their life to agriculture for more than twenty-five (25) years? Has this person been a resident of Juniata County for all of those twenty-five years? Would you be able to write a 300 word typed description as to why this person should be nominated to become the Juniata County Fair's fourth person to win the title of being Farmer of the Year?? Be sure to include in your essay what makes this person different from other farmers who live in the Juniata County area.
The nominee will be honored at the opening ceremonies of the Juniata County Fair on August 30, 2008 on the Free Stage at 7:35 PM. All nominees will be asked to be in attendance for the opening ceremonies on stage during the Brother Rich show starting at 6:30 PM.
We created this award since our fair has been an agricultural fair since its existence. The farming community surrounds the Juniata County Fairgrounds located in the center of the county. Any time you bring up farming to someone who isn't involved, the first thing they say is that it is hard work and you have to be devoted to want to do it. Ask a farmer why they want to farm? They will tell you it's being part of the 59,000 farm families in Pennsylvania who continue to be the stewards of over 7.7 million acres of farmland.
Nominations should be submitted to the Juniata County Agricultural Society, Attn. Mrs. Sue Pontius, PO Box 295, Port Royal, PA 17082. Nominations should be in by August 18, 2008.

Dina Zug was elected "Farmer of the Year", for the 153rd. Juniata County Fair. Dina has lived on farms in Juniata County since she six year old and has been surrounded by agriculture. During her childhood she was active in 4-H, exhibiting many dairy animals at the 4-H and county fairs. After graduating high school, she married Arthur Zug and they moved to a farm in Port Royal. In 1979 they bought her mother and dad's farm in Van Wert, where they still reside today.
Dina has a seemingly endless list of activities in which she is involved that are connected with agriculture. She is a member of Walker Grange, where she has held many offices and is currently the banquet director. She is also a member of the Pomona Grange and the PA State Grange, where she has held many offices as well. She is currently serving on the Jr. Grange Committee and the PA Service Corporation Board. The National Grange is yet another activity in which she is involved.
Currently, Dina is serving on the board of ADADC in Syracuse, New York to manage milk check off money for the promotion of dairy products. She is also on the board of PDMP Pro Dairy Management of PA and helps to put together and implement programs to make progressive dairy farms more profitable.
Dina also belongs to the American Holstein Association and the PA Holstein Association, and 98o/o of the Zugstead herd is registered or identified. Another activity that she really enjoyed is being a 4-H leader of the Dairy Feeders Club, which she founded. Some of her other many active memberships are PA Farm Bureau, Land-o-Lakes, and Free Spring Church of the Brethren.
On top of all of her activities, she still has time to co-manage Zugstead Farm, Inc. with her husband.

Our 2007 Juniata County Fair Queen Ashley Kostich is planning on doing a food drive to benefit the Juniata County Food Pantry. The Juniata County Food Pantry is located in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania. just a few miles away from the Juniata County Fairgrounds. This food drive will be held as a part of the Dream Race Extreme being held at the Port Royal Speedway on August 2, 2008.
Everyone who brings a non-perishable food item to donate to the Juniata County Food Pantry will be given a chance to win one of two raffle baskets that will be on display at the Dream Race Extreme. For each item you bring to donate, you get to register for more chances to win! Everyone who brings in five non-perishable food items will get six chances to win! Numerous items are currently being collected for the baskets. The Juniata County Agricultural Society has kicked off the event with donating two weekly Juniata County Fair passes and two Tuscarora 50 tickets.
Ashley realizes this project will take some real man power to pull off, so she has enlisted her brother Ted Kostich Jr. and the Juniata High School Key Club to assist with this project. She has this great desire to make these boys have to work harder than they ever worked before, so load up those donations and make her dream come true!
Ms. Kostich goes to Millersville University and her roommate just happens to be the daughter of Late Model World of Outlaws driver Rick Eckert. The two young ladies wanted an extra added attraction to help draw your attention to their benefit for the food pantry so they talked Mr. Eckert into bringing his late model show car to the event to be on display.
We have people right here in our own back yard that need our help. So often, we think we can't do anything to make a difference, this is one time where you can. Can we make a believer out of you? Take one item at a time, take it times several thousand people, it all adds up to one great big success story.
